Hope not too late to write about this app from Kenya perspective when Google has announced that it is replacing hangouts with Google Duo in the set of core applications included within Android-powered smartphones. Google I/O 2016 was the Launchpad of Google’s new app, Duo, a simple video-calling service that’s available for iOS and android. It is one of the four apps google announced during the conference.
With this entire gamut of complicated communication apps all over, simplicity is the name of the game with Duo. Although this app could be an alternative / competition with Apple’s FaceTime, iPhone owners won’t find it compelling enough to ring up fellow iPhone users. However, the app would come in handy for calling up their buddies who use android.
Why Google Duo will actually make you want to use video calling? Read through:
Super Simple Interface
The pure focus of its incredibly user-friendly and intuitive interface is to provide and advance user interface and easy access to the users. All you need is a phone number to reach to the people in their contact list.
Speed & Reliability
Simplicity brings in the speed as the reason behind keeping it simple is to maintain a reliable connection and speed throughout the video call. Something that most apps fail at delivering. Automatic adjustment of call quality, smooth and effortless switching between Wi-Fi and cellular data without any interruption are some of the key features of this app that shows its emphasis on faster and reliable operation.
Unique and innovative ‘Knock Knock’ has already created the buzz around. The feature lets you see who’s calling before you pick up. Google’s rationale for this is that this feature makes video calling more spontaneous and welcoming. It makes calls feel more like an invitation rather than interruption. If Knock Knock is not your thing, you can disable it from Duo’s Settings menu.
Access Through Phone Number
sign up is super simple. All you need is your phone number. No Google account or third party account necessary. It can’t get much simpler than this. Moreover, it uses end-to-end encryption, so your data can’t be viewed from third parties or even Google itself.
Duo is gaining in popularity. Softpedia reports that the app has now crossed the 10 million downloads mark in Play Store.
